Last night, on February 2nd, Foreign Cinema Restaurant hosted
a benefit for Word for Word.
A percentage of every bill was donated to Z Space,
as 100% of the proceeds from the signature "Word Up" cocktail!
It was fun and delicious!

About Day of the Dead:
Dia de los Muertos is a traditional Meso-American holiday dedicated to the ancestors; it honors both death and the cycle of life. In Mexico, neighbors gather in local cemeteries to share food, music, and fun with their extended community, both living and departed. The celebration acknowledges that we still have a relationship with our ancestors and loved ones that have passed away.
In San Francisco, Day of the Dead has been celebrated in the Mission district since the early 70s with art, music, performances and a walking procession, which help us contemplate our existence and mortality -- a moment to remember deceased friends and family, and our connections beyond our immediate concerns.
Day of the Dead is an alcohol free event with no vendors or booths of any type. Please honor this tradition and do not attempt to sell goods on the premises of Garfield Park.

First NATIONAL FOOD DAY celebrates food all over the country!

Food Day seeks to bring together Americans from all walks of life to “eat real.” Organized by the Center for Science in the Public Interest, Food Day asks us to show our support for healthy, affordable food, produced in a sustainable and humane way.
Across the nation people will be meeting for literally thousands of events – in homes, schools, churches, farmers markets, city halls and state capitals - to have public discussions about food, celebrate food producers, learn about nutrition, watch films, and share meals.

Two Foodie Films Playing This Week - Lunch Line & Farmageddon

This Thursday Slow Food San Francisco and Applegate Farms present the documentary Lunch Line (2011), which “takes a new look at the school lunch program by exploring its past, its current challenges, and its opportunities for the future. The National School Lunch Program began in 1946, and now, more than 60 years later, the program feeds more than 31 million children every day. In the film, leaders from all sides of the school food debate, including government officials, school foodservice experts, activists, and students, weigh in on the program and discuss ways to continue nourishing America's children for another 60 years.”

Cocktail Week is presented by the Barbary Coast Conservancy of the American Cocktail, “a not-for-profit organization that is dedicated to preserving the cultural heritage of saloons and their cocktails in San Francisco.” Several local bars and restaurants will be participating.
